Best Recipes: Healthy Whole-Grain Scones with Walnuts and Fruits
Dear Alice,
Today I would like to share with you a healthy recipe of whole-grain scones. This recipe uses whole-grain flour, which delivers more vitamins and more energy then the wheat flour. I highly recommend this recipe of scones for breakfast or for dinner, especially (but not necessarily) after any training or sport session that you did. It will be the perfect meal for the day!
INGREDIENTS (for 12 Portions)
- 500 grams Whole-Grain Flour (or in German Dinkelmehl)
- 100 grams Cold Butter (I usually use the Thea Butter)
- Pinch of Salt
- 1 Pack of Baking Powder
- 230 ml Buttermilk
- 40 grams Brown Sugar (alternatively you can also use less sugar around 20 grams for instance. I normally use 1-2 Spoons of Brown Sugar or even Coconut Flower Sugar.)
- 150 grams Almonds
- 150-200 grams Dried Apricots
- Vanilla
PREPARATION
- Cut in small pieces the almonds and the dried apricots and leave them aside.
- Mix together the flour, the salt and the baking powder in a separate bowl.
- Cut the butter in small pieces and add it to the flour mixture. Add the butter to the flour mixture and mix them all together with the mixer.
- Add the sugar, the vanilla, the cut almonds and the cut dried apricots to the flour-butter mixture and mix them all together until you get a consistent dough.
- Add the buttermilk to the dough composition and mix them all together until you get a solid dough.
- Roll the dough in a round form with a broadness of about 2-3 cm. Use the knife to cut around 12 even pieces from the rolled dough.
- Preheat the oven to 180 grades Celsius. Spread milk on the scones pieces and bake them around 5-10 minutes in the oven until they get a gold color.
- Enjoy the scones with tea or coffee! I usually eat them with butter and marmalade or gem. They are definitely extremely delicious.
Sincerely yours,
Madalina
